Pictory edits your script. Autotube writes it, too.

Pictory turns a script, article or recording into a video with stock footage and captions. Autotube starts from a title: it researches, writes, narrates, illustrates and renders the whole thing.

Which one to buy.

Pictory: A script, article or recording turned into a captioned stock-footage video. Best for: Marketing and training teams who already have the words and need them on screen with captions, a brand kit and a shared workspace.

The difference between these two tools is a single question: do you already have the script? Pictory takes words you are holding — a script, a blog post, a slide deck, a recording — and puts them on screen with stock footage and captions. It writes nothing. On a faceless channel the script is the hard half of the work and the visuals are wallpaper for it, so if you arrive at Pictory empty-handed, the tool has not started your job yet.

Autotube starts a step earlier and finishes a step later. It researches the topic, writes a script of up to 45,000 words, narrates it in the channel's own voice, times the visuals to that narration and renders anything from 3 minutes to 3 hours. Pictory's script-to-video path caps at 30 minutes, and its video minutes reset on the first of every month whether or not you used them.

Where Pictory is genuinely the better buy is when the video is not really the product. It edits recorded video by its transcript, cuts highlights out of long recordings, turns slides and PDFs into video, and carries brand kits, shared workspaces, SSO and SCORM — a marketing or training team's feature list, not a channel's. It also lets you try it for fourteen days without paying, which Autotube does not.

Pictory on unused minutes, quoted from their site on 19 September 2026: “Do unused video minutes roll over next month? No. Your quota is reset on the first of every month.”

Pictory on refunds, quoted from their site on 19 September 2026: “We currently don't offer refunds on paid subscriptions. However, you can cancel anytime and won't be charged on renewal after cancellation.”

Pictory is a trademark of its owner. Autotube is not affiliated with Pictory; this page compares public information for people choosing between the two.

6 differences worth reading about.

A table says "30 minutes". What it cannot say is what a ceiling does to a channel, which plan you would really be on, or where Pictory is the better buy.

  1. 1

    Who writes the words

A faceless video is narration with pictures behind it. The narration is what holds a viewer for forty minutes and the pictures are what stops the screen being blank, which means the writing is the expensive part and everything else is assembly. Any tool that begins with “paste your script” has left the expensive part on your desk, and a weekly channel feels that within a month.

    Pictory
Pictory does not write. That is not a criticism of the product, it is the product: you bring a script, an article, a deck or a recording, and it becomes a captioned video with stock footage. For a marketing team turning a published blog post into a video, the words already exist and this is precisely the right division of labour.
Autotube starts from a title. It researches the topic, writes the script to the channel's brief and target runtime, and narrates it — and ideation goes further back still, proposing the next ten titles from your channel's own winners and your competitors' outliers.

Ours, for anyone making original long-form. Theirs, without qualification, if your words are already written and you want them on screen quickly.

  2. 2

How long the finished video can run

Runtime is the format. Sleep content, documentaries, compilations and deep-dive explainers live between forty minutes and several hours, and there is no version of those formats that fits in half an hour. A ceiling is therefore not a limitation you work around; it is a list of the things the tool cannot make.

    Pictory
Pictory's script-to-video and URL-to-video paths cap at 30 minutes. Its plans sell video minutes per month rather than longer videos: $29 buys 200 minutes, $59 buys 600, $199 buys 1,800 shared across three users.
Autotube renders 3 minutes to 3 hours in one pass on every plan, with the script written to the runtime and the narration generated as a single continuous piece.

Ours, by six times. If your format lives under half an hour, this dimension does not apply to you and the script question above is the one that decides it.

  3. 3

    Where the pictures come from

Stock footage and generated imagery fail in opposite ways. Stock is real and generic: the same four clips of a laptop appear in every video on the subject, and nothing in the library matches a scene that never happened. Generated imagery is specific and synthetic: it will illustrate the fall of a city or a dream sequence exactly, and it will never be actual footage of anything.

    Pictory
Pictory draws on stock libraries including Getty and Storyblocks on its Professional plan and up. That is a large, professionally licensed pool, and for corporate and explainer content it is the safer and more appropriate choice.
Autotube mixes AI images, AI video clips and premium stock footage, chosen per channel preset so each channel keeps a consistent look across every upload. For a sleep story or a historical reconstruction, that mix can illustrate scenes no library holds.

Theirs for licensed, real-world footage on business subjects. Ours for narrative formats where the scene has to be invented rather than found.

  4. 4

What happens to what you did not use

Every subscription in this category sells capacity by the month, and the interesting clause is what happens to the capacity you did not consume. It decides whether a quiet month costs you nothing or costs you a full month's allowance.

    Pictory
Pictory's own pricing FAQ answers this plainly: unused video minutes do not roll over, and the quota resets on the first of every month. Note the date rather than the anniversary — the reset is calendar-based, so a subscription started late in a month gets a short first period.
Autotube credits roll over while you are subscribed rather than being reset each month, and expire 30 days after the subscription ends.

Ours. The calendar reset is the detail most likely to surprise someone reading only the headline price.

  5. 5

Trying it, and getting your money back

Neither of these products can be judged from a marketing page, so the cost of being wrong is part of the price. There are two ways a company can lower it: let you in for nothing, or let you out with your money.

    Pictory
Pictory offers a 14-day free trial covering 15 video minutes at 720p, which is enough to find out whether the output suits you. After that, their pricing page states there are no refunds on paid subscriptions, though you can cancel and avoid the next renewal.
Autotube has no free trial, which is a real disadvantage. What it offers instead is that the app shows the exact credit cost of each step before it runs, so nothing is spent by surprise, and what you do not spend keeps.

Theirs. A 14-day trial is worth more to most buyers than a balance that keeps, so call this one theirs.

  6. 6

Who the product is actually built for

Feature lists tell you less than the features a company chose to build. SSO and SCORM exist because somebody's compliance team asked for them; channel presets and voice clones exist because somebody publishes under a brand voice every week. The tool whose roadmap is aimed at your job will keep getting better at it.

    Pictory
Pictory's shape is corporate: brand kits, shared team workspaces, three users on the $199 plan, and an Enterprise tier with ten or more users, SSO and SCORM for learning-management systems. Everything about that list says marketing and training departments.
Autotube's shape is a channel operator's: up to ten channel presets each with its own brief, narration voice and visual style, voice clones on every plan, ideation from your own analytics, and a single-operator account with no seats to buy.

Theirs for a team inside a company. Ours for one person running several faceless channels. Neither list is longer — they point in different directions.

What you gain over Pictory.

Every line here is a difference against the rows and policies quoted above, not a feature list.

  • Research, then a script of up to 45,000 words written to the channel's brief and target runtime, then narration. Pictory begins after all of that: you bring the words, and it puts them on screen.

  • Autotube renders 3 minutes to 3 hours in one pass on every plan. Pictory's script-to-video and URL-to-video paths stop at 30 minutes on every tier they sell.

  • Ideation proposes the next ten titles from your channel's own winners and your competitors' outliers. Pictory's pricing page states nothing about ideation, because choosing the topic is not the problem it solves.

  • Autotube credits roll over while you are subscribed and expire 30 days after the subscription ends. Pictory's own FAQ says unused video minutes do not roll over and the quota resets on the first of every month.

  • Autotube clones a voice from a sample on the cheapest plan. Pictory's voice clones start on the $59 Professional tier, two per account.

  • A sleep channel and a finance channel keep separate briefs, voices and visual styles. Pictory's equivalent is a brand kit, which is one identity applied consistently rather than several kept apart.

  • The Own Keys plan runs the same pipeline against your Google, OpenAI and ElevenLabs accounts and charges nothing per generation. Pictory's pricing page does not mention bringing your own keys.

Where Pictory genuinely wins.

We make Autotube, and these are real. If one of them is the thing you need, buy Pictory — we would rather you read this page once and trust it than switch and regret it.

  • Editing recorded video by its transcript

Pictory lets you edit a recording by changing its text, and cuts highlight clips out of long recordings automatically. Autotube has no transcript editor and does not accept recorded footage as input at all, so for anyone working from webinars, podcasts or talks this is not a close call.

  • Slides, PDFs and articles as source material

A deck, a PDF or a published blog post becomes a captioned video. Autotube takes a title or a script and nothing else, so every other document you already own is worth nothing to it.

  • Getty and Storyblocks footage

Their Professional plan and up draw on Getty and Storyblocks. That is a larger and more defensibly licensed pool of real-world footage than anything Autotube reaches for, and for corporate subjects it is the more appropriate look.

  • Built for teams, up to SSO and SCORM

Brand kits, shared workspaces, three users on the $199 plan, and an Enterprise tier with SSO and SCORM export for learning-management systems. Autotube is a single-operator product with no seats, no SSO and no LMS integration.

  • A 14-day free trial

Fifteen video minutes at 720p, at no cost, before any card is charged. Autotube has no free tier at all, so Pictory is meaningfully cheaper to be wrong about — and that matters more to most buyers than any single feature row.

How this comparison was made.

We make Autotube, so this page is not neutral and does not pretend to be. What it is instead is checkable: every price, cap and policy attributed to another company was read from that company's own pricing or terms page on the date printed beside it, and every link goes to the live source rather than to a screenshot of it.

There are no affiliate links on this site and no sponsored placements, so nothing here is written to earn a commission on where you land, and nothing on this page was paid for by anybody named on it.

Every tool named here carries a stated flaw, ours included, and where another tool is the better answer for the job you actually have, the page says so. A page claiming we win every row would be exactly as useful to you as the ones claiming it about themselves.

There are no scores and no star ratings here, on anyone's product. A number implies a methodology, and a number a company attaches to its own competitor is worth even less than that. What these pages give you instead is what each tool caps, what it charges and what it refuses to do — each of them checkable in one click.

Where the other company's own wording decides something — a credit rule, a cap, a refund policy — this page quotes it rather than paraphrasing it, and prints the page it was quoted from beneath the table. If the thing you need is in their column, buy theirs.

Prices in this category move fast, and the cheapest plan a pricing page advertises is not always the cheapest plan that does the whole job. The plan cards above show every tier either product sells, so you can compare the plan you would actually be on rather than the one the headline quotes.

What we could not verify

Every figure attributed to Pictory on this page was read from their own pages on 19 September 2026. These are the questions those pages did not answer, left open rather than estimated:

  • — Pictory's pricing page states no maximum script length, so the table leaves that row blank on their side. The 30-minute video ceiling is stated; a word count is not.
  • — Their plans sell both “video minutes” and “AI credits”, and we could not establish from public pages which operations draw on which. The plan lines above quote their own wording rather than converting between the two.
  • — Their pricing page says nothing about ideation or about bringing your own AI keys, so both rows read not stated. We have also not graded output quality on either side — nothing here is a claim about which tool makes a better-looking video.

And the flaw on our side

It makes no Shorts and no vertical video, and its editor is built for adjusting a finished run rather than for craft: no colour grading, no keyframes, no multiplayer. It is one founder's product rather than a company with a support rota, there is no free plan to poke at before you subscribe, and a three-hour render takes real minutes on real hardware — the pipeline is honest about that up front rather than pretending an hour of video is instant.

Pictory carries its own, stated above: It does not write anything. You arrive holding the script, which is the hard half of a faceless channel, and the script-to-video path caps at 30 minutes. Video minutes reset on the first of every month whether or not you used them, and paid subscriptions are not refundable.
